Possibly the only island in Thailand with any real sense of history, Phuket is unique, and it is Phuket Town that demonstrates this uniqueness. More like something you might find in the colonial enclaves of Malaysia, the Chinese shop house of the town have recently been transformed into fantastic boutiques and award-wining restaurant. Increasingly it is being placed on the map alongside the heritage Mecca of Chiang Mai and Ayuthaya.
